An old project for the New Year – Sheena

SheenaI knew exactly what my New Year’s project was going to be, have you ever bought a kit for a blanket and left it for years just sitting there waiting… and waiting … and waiting. Well my kit has been siting waiting for 2 year! I fell in love with Jane Crowfoot’s Frida Flowers and felt compelled to buy the kit. I was a little intimidated and slightly nervous to start. However, over these past 2 years I have gained the confidence to say finally “Bring it on”

frida-s-flowersFrida Kahlo is my favorite painter and a huge part of my culture. My mother was born in Mexico and I grew up in the Latin area of East Los Angeles. The vivid colors in the blanket reminds me of the street art from my childhood.

I moved to the UK 12 years ago and now I have children of my own and it is important to me that they too learn about my Spanish heritage and Mexican culture. It will also be a remembrance to my Abuelita who was also named Frida

I brought the original colorway using Stylecraft Classique Cotton DK. I’m really excited to be sharing my journey with all you lovely pippins.

  1. I’m also planning a Frida for my Mum this year. Enjoy! I’m sure learning to slowly & thoroughly read each step as I go along.
