November Moods Added

Its been a crazy month.. Sickness hit the Pippin house.. Thanks giving with all the trimmings and I dont mean decorations 🙂 .. Its comforting having allllllll the family together but with that brings difference of opinions, which can lead to very colorful conversations.

A few of my November moods include.

Worn Out because that’s how my November started, when one tries to pack so much into a week, the layers start to peel away leaving the bare bones exposed.

Worn Out
Stormy weather.. Sickness hit the pippin house, first was my 10 year old, sleepless night became a regular occurrence.. Have you ever tried sleeping in a twin size bed with a 10 year old.. DONT! Next to get hit with the bug was me.. and like a trooper I pushed on trough to the other side.. and lastly my hubby came down with it, I dont now about you but men + sickness = BIG BABIES.. Yes my 10 year handled it better.

The Raven Ombre Pack

The Raven
A queen wished her naughty daughter would turn into a raven and fly away, so she could have some peace, and her wish was instantly fulfilled. She flew away to a forest……..

Raven
I can relate to to this.. Though I wouldn’t wish my son to fly way, I do wish that he would fly away to his bedroom sometimes..

I recently decorated Lucian’s bedroom in shades of black, greys and a touch of red. But his room is missing one of mommy’s handmade creations so my next project will be for  him.

I haven’t quite decided on a pattern yet, I have a few ideas floating around. It has to be something masculine as my 9 year old would just simply refuse a blanket resembling anything “girly” .

I know if I use the colors in the pack as they are intended from light to dark and vice versa whatever pattern I choose would look stunning. So perhaps a ripple or a chevron, some thing with stripes.

I purchased the deluxe pack, with 2 balls of each of the colors i should have a good size throw for his bed. Packs can be purchased at loremar.co.uk

Do you have a Little Raven? What would be you choice of pattern?

Whats Your Color Story!

Over the last couple of weeks I have carefully selected 5 colors from the Stylecraft Special DK range that harmoniously blend together to create a gradient ombre effect.

I came up with 9 colorways that produce a gradual effect by blending one color into the next. These color packs are available to purchase here

The Raven
A queen wished her naughty daughter would turn into a raven and fly away, so she could have some peace, and her wish was instantly fulfilled. She flew away to a forest.

The Enchanted Forest
The forest as a place of magic and danger is found, where strange things might occur, and strange people might live, the home of monsters, witches and fairies.

Thumbelina
Thumbelina tries to protect herself from the elements, but when winter comes, she is in desperate straits. She is finally given shelter by an old field mouse and tends her dwelling in gratitude.

Tinderbox
A poor soldier returning home from war. He meets a witch, who asks him to climb into a hollow tree to retrieve a magic tinderbox. The witch gives the man permission to take anything he finds inside the chambers, but he must return the tinderbox.

Starlight

A king, whose kingdom was constantly imperiled by another king, had an only son who had fallen in love with a slave, Starlight. Her family was quite unknown, but he cared nothing for anything but her

The Griffin

A king’s daughter was ill, and it was foretold she would be made well by eating an apple. The king declared that whoever brought the apple to cure her would marry her.

Rapunzel
One day, a prince rides through the forest and hears Rapunzel singing from the tower. Entranced by her ethereal voice, he searches for her and discovers the tower, but is naturally unable to enter it. He returns often, listening to her beautiful singing.

Golden Goose
Sent out with a biscuit cooked in the ashes of the hearth and soured beer, is generous with the little old man and is rewarded with a golden goose. The goose has been discovered within the roots of the tree chosen by the little gray man

Snow Maiden

There was once a daughter born to Fairy Spring and Father Frost. This daughter was the most beautiful maiden that had ever been known, she had skin as pale as the snow, eyes blue like the sky, and thick blond hair that hung to her waist. She was named Snowmaiden.

So which is your color story 🙂

Sweet Crochet! Donuts.

Some of you might have read my August book review in August edition of On the hook newsletter. Its was Twinkie Chan’s Crocheted Abobe A la Mode

donutpouf_small2
I purposely brought the book for the Giant Doughnut pouf pattern. But i made a bit of a whoopsie :). I got so excited when my book arrived my fingers ran off to teh internet and ordered the yarn in a dash. I when with one of my favorite trusted brands Stylecraft. I ordered the correct amount and a brand new Clover 9mm hook.

So I sat back and waited. My yarn arrived and i pulled everything out to set up my work station (read: corner of my couch).

Something didn’t seem quite right, my new shiny hook looked way to big! then it hit me, I had ordered chunky yarn instead of Super Bulky. Yes there is a huge difference.

What was i to do? It would have cost more than the yarn itself to send back to the UK. I could have doubled up on the chuck yarn and made it thicker but to be true full I dont like doubling up yarn. I could order a new batch of of yarn in the correct weight but I didn’t want to wait. So I compromised, I used the chunky yarn but dropped the size of the hook down to the recommended size for chunky – 6mm.

Materials: I ordered 6 in the camel and 3 in fondant.

Colors
and off i went! As i got half way through and began my color change I noticed I had enough for a second one. Matching doughnut.. heaven.

They were super easy to make, all single crochet. I brought a huge box of poly fill thinking i was going to make a giant doughnut. These 2 didn’t take much at all.

20731419_10212431126080403_1250257697_n
They came out a great size for little ones. Now on to the sprinkles, I had a assortment of Caron Simply Soft to use for the sprinkles, I thought the nice shine to the yarn would give the sprinkles a nice touch. But they were a fail 😦 they came out rather looking like a feminine product. So I when down a weight size to DK.. Yes you guessed SSDK.

20707693_10212431152641067_167996122_n

I love the way they came out in the end even after the troubles and woes I had. They are to be gifted to two special little girls for reading poufs.
