Hello Spring.. Well almost

I’m ready.. bring it on! While everyone is hunkering down with their Arizona throws my mind is drifting to Spring. I’m itching to start my next collection. Ive unleashed my imaginative beast and the door is wide open for new ideas.

I long to walk barefoot in the grass, to dance in the April showers  and to smell the buds blooming in May’s flowers, to open the windows and let the fresh air in. The birth of a new season!

Just a few more weeks I keep telling myself.

Hello Spring

The Raven Ombre Pack

The Raven
A queen wished her naughty daughter would turn into a raven and fly away, so she could have some peace, and her wish was instantly fulfilled. She flew away to a forest……..

Raven
I can relate to to this.. Though I wouldn’t wish my son to fly way, I do wish that he would fly away to his bedroom sometimes..

I recently decorated Lucian’s bedroom in shades of black, greys and a touch of red. But his room is missing one of mommy’s handmade creations so my next project will be for  him.

I haven’t quite decided on a pattern yet, I have a few ideas floating around. It has to be something masculine as my 9 year old would just simply refuse a blanket resembling anything “girly” .

I know if I use the colors in the pack as they are intended from light to dark and vice versa whatever pattern I choose would look stunning. So perhaps a ripple or a chevron, some thing with stripes.

I purchased the deluxe pack, with 2 balls of each of the colors i should have a good size throw for his bed. Packs can be purchased at loremar.co.uk

Do you have a Little Raven? What would be you choice of pattern?

Whats Your Color Story!

Over the last couple of weeks I have carefully selected 5 colors from the Stylecraft Special DK range that harmoniously blend together to create a gradient ombre effect.

I came up with 9 colorways that produce a gradual effect by blending one color into the next. These color packs are available to purchase here

The Raven
A queen wished her naughty daughter would turn into a raven and fly away, so she could have some peace, and her wish was instantly fulfilled. She flew away to a forest.

The Enchanted Forest
The forest as a place of magic and danger is found, where strange things might occur, and strange people might live, the home of monsters, witches and fairies.

Thumbelina
Thumbelina tries to protect herself from the elements, but when winter comes, she is in desperate straits. She is finally given shelter by an old field mouse and tends her dwelling in gratitude.

Tinderbox
A poor soldier returning home from war. He meets a witch, who asks him to climb into a hollow tree to retrieve a magic tinderbox. The witch gives the man permission to take anything he finds inside the chambers, but he must return the tinderbox.

Starlight

A king, whose kingdom was constantly imperiled by another king, had an only son who had fallen in love with a slave, Starlight. Her family was quite unknown, but he cared nothing for anything but her

The Griffin

A king’s daughter was ill, and it was foretold she would be made well by eating an apple. The king declared that whoever brought the apple to cure her would marry her.

Rapunzel
One day, a prince rides through the forest and hears Rapunzel singing from the tower. Entranced by her ethereal voice, he searches for her and discovers the tower, but is naturally unable to enter it. He returns often, listening to her beautiful singing.

Golden Goose
Sent out with a biscuit cooked in the ashes of the hearth and soured beer, is generous with the little old man and is rewarded with a golden goose. The goose has been discovered within the roots of the tree chosen by the little gray man

Snow Maiden

There was once a daughter born to Fairy Spring and Father Frost. This daughter was the most beautiful maiden that had ever been known, she had skin as pale as the snow, eyes blue like the sky, and thick blond hair that hung to her waist. She was named Snowmaiden.

So which is your color story 🙂

Game.. .Set… Match

I love testing new patterns, its like a blank canvas and a new set of paints.

So when Helen Shrimpton put out a call for testers to try her new Bubblegum Shawl I jumped on the chance. Helen designed the shawl for the new release of Stylecraft Candy Swirl yarn. You can find the bubblegum pattern on Helen’s blog post Crystals and Crochet

Me.. I live in a far away place across the pond and could not get my hand on any!! so I did what I do and made up my own colorway.

First I needed inspiration… my mind was drifting to Rigley’s Spearmint, Double mint, Cool mint…. you can see were I’m going with this… Lovely cool greens!

inspire1
Then I need to see how the colors complimented each other in the light of day.

Colors

I had my colors.. White, Sherbet, Aspen, Turquoise and Empire in Stylecraft Special DK. And went to work…… its took a total of 5-6 hours.. I used a small amount of the Sherbet, Aspen, Turquoise and a little more of of the Empire. I used 4 balls of the white, but only needed the 4th ball for the pom pom edging.

I did a little each evening and for some reason as I was working up the pattern the colors reminded me of Wimbledon.

I do miss the days when we would have Wimbledon on the TV around the clock, the grunts of the athletes, the Oooo and Ahhhh of the crowd, the thud of the tennis ball, the empire shouting “Out!!!” But now I’m across the pond and the time zone makes it difficult. So this year I shall wear my Bubblegum shawl and think of Wimbledon and try and catch a least a few sets. Roll on July!
